‘Yard long’ Bean
Oriental variety. Produce very long and slender pods, up to 45 cm 18″ long. Pods are tender with delicious nutty flavor when steamed or stir-fried. Pick regularly to encourage new pods. Do not pick beans after a rain or in the early morning as this causes diseases.

Soil: Rich and well drained
Culture: Planting should be done after any risk of frost. Separate each stem from your pot. The richer your land is in manure or natural fertilizer, the more abundant your harvest will be. When your plant has 7 leaves, pinch the stems to stimulate the strength of the plant, so you will have a better production. As the plants will have a considerable height at maturity, it is wise to climb on a fence, trellis or ropes on the balcony. Try to shelter it from the prevailing winds, its high stems can break.
Like peas, it has the ability to attach nitrogen from the air to its roots. To enrich the soil, allow the plants to decompose on site after harvest (leaving the roots).
Harvest: Harvest when the grains in the pods are well formed and taste. If they are right for you, eat them quickly, raw, pureed or in a frying pan.
Good companionships: For example, you can grow lettuce or radishes between your ranks. The beans will protect them from the sun when it starts to heat up. By spacing your bean rows of at least 70cm, you can intersperse a row of tomatoes, peppers or squash. The rows of beans will protect these heat-loving plants from the wind.
Enemy plants: As the bean enriches the soil with nitrogen, do not grow near onions, garlic and shallots.
